Are MACs Immune to Viruses?

US - Norton Internet Security 4.0 for MacintoshAdvertisement

How a Virus Works

Viruses and other malicious software target security vulnerabilities in a computer operating system. For this reason they have to be targeted at specific operating systems - Windows, DOS, MAC OS, Linux, etc.

A Virus written for Windows will not run on a MAC OS computer. A MAC virus will not run on Windows. All of them only run on the operating system they have been targeted at.

The objective of the virus writer is to cause widespread damage, so most malware is targeted at PCs running Microsoft Windows for the simple reason that it counts for the majority of computers worldwide.

MAC Computers are no longer immune from malicious software attacks. Although the majority of viruses and other malware is targeted at PCs running Windows there has been an increase in the number of viruses targeting MACs. This is because of the increasing popularity of MACs. There are now significant numbers of them worldwide with the majority of users not using any form of security software.

Some antivirus vendors are now producing MAC versions of their software now, but we recommend Norton Internet Security 4.0 for Macintosh - Download now! Click Here
